Plixlab ("we," "us," or "our") operates the plixlab.com website and application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.
Account Information. When you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your email address and basic profile information. We do not store passwords — authentication is handled entirely by Clerk.
Content You Create. We store presentations, slides, uploaded files (images, 3D models, datasets, notebooks, and other supported formats), AI chat messages, and citation data (including Zotero integration credentials) that you create or provide while using Plixlab.
Usage Data. We track AI token consumption (by operation type and month) to enforce plan limits. We also collect error reports via Sentry to diagnose and fix bugs.
Sharing Data. When you share a presentation, we store the sharing mode (public, authenticated, or private), share tokens, and — for private sharing — an email allowlist that you configure.
Plixlab uses the following third-party services that may process your data:
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Files you upload (images, 3D models, datasets, VTP files, notebooks) are stored in Convex's managed storage. Storage limits vary by plan. Files associated with shared presentations may be accessible to viewers according to your sharing settings.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on the following legal bases under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
Plixlab uses cookies and local storage primarily for authentication session management (via Clerk) and to store UI preferences (such as sidebar state). These are strictly necessary or functional cookies. We do not use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. Because we only use essential cookies required for the service to function, we do not require a cookie consent banner under GDPR ePrivacy rules.
Plixlab is operated from the United States. If you access the service from the EEA, UK, or other regions with data protection laws, your personal data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on the following safeguards for these transfers:
We use HTTPS for all connections. Authentication is handled by Clerk with industry-standard security practices. Third-party API credentials (such as Zotero keys) are stored in obfuscated form. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your content (presentations, files, messages) is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete individual presentations and their associated data at any time. AI chat messages are retained for the duration of your account. Usage records (token consumption) are retained for billing purposes. If you wish to delete your account entirely, please contact us at contact@plixlab.com and we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the following rights under GDPR:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@plixlab.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@plixlab.com. We will verify your identity and respond within 45 days as required by law.
Categories of personal information collected: identifiers (email, name), internet activity (usage data, error logs), and user-generated content (presentations, files, messages). See Section 1 for details.
Plixlab is not directed at children under 16 (under 13 in the United States). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated date. For material changes that affect your rights, we will notify you via email where possible.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise your data rights, please contact us at contact@plixlab.com.
For GDPR-related inquiries, you may also contact your local data protection authority.
